"Way to Drive!" is the ultimate app designed exclusively for Chinese tourists seeking a smooth and worry-free driving experience in the bustling San Francisco Bay Area. With a focus on ensuring compliance with local traffic regulations and enhancing safety, this app empowers users with a comprehensive set of tools to navigate unfamiliar roads confidently.
Project Background
Visitors frequently struggle with understanding local traffic rules in foreign or unfamiliar places, often resulting in traffic accidents or citations. This confusion is caused by:
LANGUAGE BARRIERS
Difficulty understanding road signs or instructions in a foreign language
CULTURAL DIFFERENCES
Lack of familiarity with local driving behaviors and etiquette
TIME CONSTRAINTS
Limited time to learn local traffic rules during short-term trips

Data analysis, interviews, and a comprehensive survey involving 82 participants unveiled key insights into language barriers, difficulties with traffic signs, and the need for real-time assistance. Notably, while 70% recognized the importance of local traffic rule knowledge, 67% admitted to limited rule research.

Seamlessly preview traffic rules before embarking on your journey or while en route.
Users can access the route plan before commencing their trip to preview traffic rules and read details by clicking on each rule. As they begin navigation, when approaching traffic rules mentioned on the map, a popup window and audio alert remind users of the rule.
Image Recognition
Decode complex road signs with ease through our advanced image recognition technology.
When the user sees the complex parking signs on the side, they can use the app to scan the rule and see the detail to avoid getting parking tickets.
Neighborhood Insights
Stay ticket-free by exploring and setting alerts for nearby traffic rules
Users can identify their surroundings to explore unique or critical local traffic rules, such as Street Sweeping, and set up alerts to prevent their vehicle from being towed

Way to Drive showcased the value of blending functionality with cultural sensitivity. Designing for international users required creating intuitive workflows while addressing specific pain points like language and cultural adaptation. Moving forward, I aim to enhance the app's capabilities by incorporating more advanced machine learning models.
